The Math

Bicycling.com took a bunch of statistical information into account when compiling their list of 50 Best Bike Cities:

  • US Census city population
  • Bicycling-friendly business score
  • # of bike-share bikes
  • Home values
  • Bicycle facilities

What Makes Chicago Such A Great Biking City?

For starters, this spring Chicago will become the first major U.S. city with a downtown network of protected bike lanes” once the Loop Link Transit Project is completed.

It also doesn’t hurt that Chicago is home to the 2nd largest bike share system in the entire country, Divvy. Divvy also just so happens to be a partner of ours. Click here to download our coupon for $10 off an annual membership.

And as if the highly-anticipated Loop Link Transit Project isn’t enough to make Chicago a bike-commuter’s dream, the Windy City already does a great job at protecting its bikers. In fact, “many of Chicago’s existing bollard-protected bike lanes are currently being rebuilt with concrete curbs.”
